…and I’m not your average health & wellness marketing consultant. I grew up at the poverty line, earned a National Merit Pell Grant to attend a state university, and I’ve struggled with my mental health since I was 7 years old.
Wellness isn’t just a trend in my life– even if it is an industry I never planned on loving.
After facing failure in the commercial TV industry and staring at my (what then felt like) useless degree in the frame, I found myself applying to corporate jobs after my shift at the local gym.
Working in direct-to-consumer TV, literally As Seen On TV style commercials, helped me build my sales skills, so I was able to reframe my production experience into a resume that was marketing forward.
And it worked - I was hired at a local startup as the assistant to the COO, and worked my way into a Content Marketing role in just under 6 months.
Fast forward two years, and I was hired on as marketing employee #13, the Social Media Strategist, for SmileDirectClub. Yes, the same company that would expand into 3 continents, open over 250 stores, and generate over $12 million in net revenue from organic social through my strategies in the year I was there.
Some of the strategies I created are now used as staples in DTC marketing playbooks.
But my heart was being called to health and wellness, so I joined the team at Dr. Josh Axe and Ancient Nutrition (the supplement brand he co-founded) as the Social Media Manager. Over that 3-year tenure, my team launched more than 50 products, attended over 15 events, and grew our social media community to more than 3 million, with a 20% average engagement rate.
These days I’m working as the Awareness & Acquisition lead for the largest hemp brand in the United States, speaking at eCommerce events, and running this consulting business – all to help shape this industry into a bright future.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the last decade-plus is that you have the power to control your work, and that your work has the power to truly impact human lives… but without an intentional marketing strategy, you’re stuck.
