Where It All Began: Coding MySpace Layouts for My Friends
Who else remembers spending hours perfecting their MySpace top 8, or painstakingly choosing a profile song that really captured your mood?
Back in the early 2000s, MySpace wasn’t just a social platform—it was a canvas for creativity, self-expression, and connection.
For me, it was also the spark that ignited my career in marketing.
I wasn’t just customizing my profile; I was coding layouts for friends, helping them tell their stories visually before we even knew what “branding” meant. That fun hobby became the foundation of my career—helping health and wellness brands scale with marketing strategies grounded in connection.
From Profile Songs to Purposeful Content
Back in those MySpace days, the goal wasn’t to please algorithms or spike engagement rates—it was about creating spaces that felt like personal and authentic representations of YOU.
I spent hours tweaking HTML code and picking just the right visuals to reflect my personality: from the glitter icons to my layout background to the font that visitors could see in my About Me. Looking back, this early passion for digital storytelling was the first step in what would become my professional journey.
Those experiences taught me something critical: at its heart, great marketing isn’t about promoting—it’s about connecting. That philosophy has guided every strategy I’ve crafted since.
Turning My Passion into a Career (by accident)
Fast-forward a few years, and I found myself in my first professional marketing role. My fascination with TV production quickly evolved into a love for content creation and social media strategy.
Suddenly, I wasn’t just helping people tell their stories—I was building campaigns, analyzing data, and crafting plans to drive real results.
Working with wellness brands felt like a natural fit. As someone that grew up at the poverty line and earned a National Merit Pell Grant to attend a state university, I connect deeply with the missions of the brands I support.
Whether its helping a small wellness startup launch its first product, or refining the messaging of a well-established business, I have seen the power of purpose-driven marketing firsthand.
